A quick introduction to Britevents Northwest

Ask the Experts

Our principal sponsors are all professionals with knowledge in fields useful to Brits in the USA and Americans with a commitment to Britain or Britishness. This might be in the context of individuals with immigration, UK Pension, or international tax concerns or for British start up businesses looking to navigate the legal and practical framework of commercial operations in the USA. This section also provides links to publications, documents, and websites that will assist in navigating these international waters. We are always on the lookout for fresh experts that can assist in the above goals.

Events

Britevents Northwest will help fund independent events with a British theme beyond just a social in a local pub or restaurant. We have already done some part funding of events such as Beatles tribute sing-a-long in the Portland area, a joint event with a British Sci-Fi group, and Expert panels aiding ex-pat Brits both in person and online. We encourage individuals with British event ideas to approach us for financial, resources and event management assistance. That might include donating some items for a prize draw, loaning some of our equipment, publicizing the event, or helping with ticketing administration. We can also help with event costs underwriting. Use our Contact Page to get the ball rolling.

Membership: Origins and futures

Britevents Northwest has its origins in the Seattle Brit Meetup community and our original website launched in 2017. We expanded to the wider Puget Sound and also into Portland and its satellite cities. Very recently, we included the Spokane area. The focus was social and only social. In the future, Membership will include the social but in conjunction with funding and promoting Britishness in the wider community and seeking funds, donated items, and volunteer help to do that. We will always welcome British expats as key Members but we also seek to be inclusive of others who seek partnership between Brits and Americans here in the United States (and to an extent in the UK with our Transatlantic School Twinning project).

Fundraising and Volunteers

We have set up a whole new website devoted to our fundraising efforts for our operational costs and two new charitable causes. We have done this because we are reaching out to a new audience supplementing our valued Membership of Britevents Northwest. This is Brits USA Network (britsusa.net) and we will be formally launching the associated website in early November 2026. Those from Britevents who wish to also sail that ship are welcome to participate especially as key volunteers helping with event hosting, raising money, gifting items for our online gift store, and raising the profile of both Britevents and the charitable causes. We will be rewarding those volunteers and gifters with our Thank You free gift scheme, Britbuck© Points. Those points can be used instead of cash in the online store. In fact, many items can only be purchased with Britbuck© points.

Competitions

In conjunction with launching the online Gift store and Britbuck© points, we are increasing our number of online competitions (including competitive auctions) for some great British prizes. Keep posted for the lineup. You MUST be a Brit Club member to enter any competition, auction, or raffle. You will get one free entry for online raffles but can buy extra entries with points. For quiz and prediction competitions, you can buy a ticket in the losers raffle with points. Points count dollar for dollar the same as cash in auctions. Remember you can earn points not just for money gifts to us and our charitable funds but for offering a gift item for our store or pledging time on a task to help us achieve our goals.
